Greenwich Market’s monthly Friday Street Food Fest is back tonight, Friday 6th April 2018, and this time it is vegan.
South East London’s favourite market has linked up with vegan-themed event company Plant Bass Ldn to run the event Vegan Vibes which pairs up vegan food with special guests and live DJs.
The free-to-attend event runs from 6pm-10pm and will be the market’s first festival of 2018 following the launch of Friday Food Nights last year.
“You don’t have to be vegan to enjoy vegan,” said Jey Flash from Plant Bass Ldn.
“When we first visited Greenwich Market we were amazed by the creativity surrounding us.
“It truly is a special market and we have mindfully selected some of the finest vegan food traders to showcase their delicious products on the night.
“Your taste buds are guaranteed a party, so round up the troops and join us for what promises to be an evening of true vibes and togetherness.”
Dishes on offer include meat-free BBQ Seitan steak from Jake’s Vegan Steaks, plant-based cheese and spreads from I Am Nut Ok, Caribbean-inspired cuisine from Itis Ldn and vegan patisserie from Rubys Of London.
Regular market trader Little Leaf will also be at the event creating vegan pizza.
Founders Isotta Anchisi and Matthew Smith took to the lifestyle two years ago and began their business when living without their favourite Italian dish proved impossible.
“The atmosphere created at the night time food events at Greenwich Market is electric and celebrating a cruelty free lifestyle in a historic location is a sure sign of the times,” said Matthew.
“One thing we hear a lot in Greenwich Market is that it is so good to see vegan food in Greenwich.
“Several traders have added vegan dishes to their menu amid growing demand in the area from locals and tourists.
“The vegan community is growing fast here – we know because we are bringing more and more dough balls to feed them each week.”
Vegan craft beer is also on sale from Signature Brew and vegan cocktails from The LP Bar with vegan wine and Prosecco on tap thanks to Vini Italiani.
Why vegan wine?
“Vegan wines are made without the use of animal-derived products that are sometimes used for fining or clarifying wine,” said owner Bruno Cernecca.
“Meet with us, sip some delicious wines and taste some amazing vegan bites, courtesy of SouceSi.”
Supporting the event will be music from DJ Deccy and Jey Flash alongside a special appearance from ethical lifestyle magazine Bright Zine.
Each of the Friday night monthly Street Food Fests will have a different theme.
Forthcoming events include Gin And Jazz on May 4 and Summer Lovin’ on June 22.
Entry is always free.
