Market launches Poetry Festival: Nottingham’s Creative Quarter leads the way in market-driven events and creativity

‘It’s a market, Jim, but not as we know it’ – Sneinton market lights the way in hosting creative entertainment-driven events

Sneinton Market in Nottingham’s Cultutal Quarter has a reputation for playing host to new ideas with a bundle of events which are highly enjoyable, support its community including traders and makers. The result is a vibrant space with a lot happening, particularly on their Friday Nights event season which goes off throughout the summer coupled with some one-off specials year round.

Sneinton’s events provide a platform which attracts a new kind of creative person who see markets as places to inexpensively start businesses and try out out new ideas. A new generation of shopping public will follow on from there but for that to work to its full extent you need events and talking points and live performance to drive footfall.

So following on from the recent success of the recent Light Night event at Sneinton, a new Friday Nights @ Sneinton Market event season has been launched.

Starting Friday 20th April and monthly thereafter it kicks off with a Poetry Festival special where from 5pm ‘til late you will find a craft market, street food, a licensed bar plus, live entertainment with a different theme each time.

But do not expect a scholarly discussion of 18th century romanticists – at least not on stage anyway. A rising star on the Nottingham music scene, Luke Peter Foster will be headlining the first event.

Luke mixes spoken word and hip hop influences to evolve his unique sound and commanding his spot in Nottingham’s current music revolution.

He will be supported by 11 live poets from Nottingham based DIY Poets who will be popping up throughout the evening to spread their words. The established poetry collective, aims to give budding poets the opportunity to perform their work in public and get published.

Synthetic Pro Audio will be on the decks playing some great tunes and in honour of Record Store Day on the 21st, anyone is welcome to bring their own vinyl for Steve to play.

A selection of tasty street food vendors will be in residence to whet your appetite and a licensed bar will feature craft beers and Nottingham’s own Redsmiths gin.

There will also be an array of craft stalls to browse and pick up some unusual treats and gifts, whilst supporting Nottingham’s flourishing independent business community.

So, if you are looking for a place to chill, meet friends, eat, drink and be entertained, then head down to Sneinton Market on Friday 20th and join the new Friday Night street scene! Sneinton Market is part of the Creative Quarter, a nurturing environment that attracts and supports independent businesses to start up, grow and thrive.

The Creative Quarter company encourages the growth of Nottingham’s creative economy and promotes this city centre location as a great place to live, learn, work and invest.
