Yeovil Market has a new operator with MSD markets promising to give the market a “new lease of life”.
South Somerset District Council, which has previously ran the markets, has brought in MSD to manage the markets after stall numbers dwindled.
MSD says it will “re-invigorate the markets in Yeovil”
A council spokesperson said: “The council had been managing the markets in Yeovil for a number of years and despite officers’ best efforts to try and enhance the markets, it was decided it was time for a change of plan and management.
“MSD Markets Ltd will bring new ideas and different ways of working to the support the traders, the town and its communities.
“MSD will look to establish a programme of specialist markets and events to provide a new offer in the town centre.
“It’s hoped that Yeovil will have a festive Christmas market in place for this year to run alongside some of the other events in the town such as the Christmas light switch on event.”
MSD Markets spokesman David Daley said: “This marks the dawn of a new era for the Yeovil market.
“I would like to thank all the market traders, the staff of South Somerset District Council and the councillors for their continued support. ”
As an organisation we are not only committed to delivering a successful market but also seeing a transformation of Yeovil’s town centre and the community within it.
“We will be working closely with South Somerset District Council, Yeovil Town Council and other stakeholders as we pursue growth for the market and the town centre.
“Being community focused is an integral part of our organisation so we welcome any feedback and input from our patrons and stakeholders”.
Yeovil Market is held every Tuesday and Friday in Lower Middle Street.
Councillor Peter Gubbins said the district council felt the time was right to look at changing the way that markets in Yeovil are managed. He added: “We have been through a thorough process to attract a new operator to manage the markets and I am really pleased that we have appointed MSD Markets Ltd.
“We look forward to working closely with them for the benefit of the town and community.” MSD Markets Ltd began operating the market on Friday, April 13 and will be on the ground to supervise the day to day running of the event.Tags: Yeovil MSD Markets
